Sri Lanka on Thursday deported a British tourist for having a tattoo of Buddha on her arm which a court said was an insult to the island's main religion.

Legally, there is no ban on a Buddha tattoo in Sri Lanka, but the predominantly Buddhist nation is very sensitive about its religion.

Naomi Coleman, a 37-yar-old nurse left on a London-bound flight after being detained since her arrival on Monday from neighboring India.

"I just want to get out of this place. I have come twice to Sri Lanka, but I have never faced this with my tattoo," Coleman told Reuters by telephone shortly before she was deported.

"If there is a rule like this, Sri Lankan authorities should clearly say that Buddha tattoos are banned. I am a practicing Buddhist and Buddhism is all about compassion and kindness."

Buddhism is accorded the "foremost place" in Sri Lanka's constitution and about 70 percent of the island's 20 million people are Buddhist.

Authorities spotted Coleman's tattoo upon her arrival in Sri Lanka.

Senior immigration official Chulananda Perera said the court had decided to deport Coleman partly because she could have been "vulnerable" if allowed to stay.

"Some Sri Lankans could get offended," Perera told Reuters.

It was not the first time a tourist with such a tattoo has run into trouble in Sri Lanka. In 2013, authorities denied entry to a British man for his tattoo of Buddha.

David Moyes' firing allows Man United fan to complete butt tattoo ...

Important #butt tattoo update.

What does a person do when he really wants to get his message across? He tattoos it onto his butt, of course.

That is what one Manchester United fan did in February, when he permanently inked his body with his desire to see David Moyes fired.

Warning: Because the tattoo is on his butt, looking at the photo requires looking at his butt.

Every time he sat down, he got that shot of pain that reminded him of the pain his team was inflicting upon him. And every time he looked at his butt (which he probably did a lot because he had a very important message there), he was reminded of that pain again.

On Tuesday, this fan's dream came true, Moyes was fired and WAIT WHAT IS HE GOING TO DO WITH HIS TATTOO NOW.

Warning: More butt.

Does it count as a job when you have to pay for it?

And thus ends another important episode of "Butt Tattoos."

In the Brazilian's native tongue, the body art proudly states: 'O Brasileiro Nao Desiste Nunca' - which, in English, means 'Brazilians never give up'.

And while the phrase is well known in Coutinho's homeland, he says it has also come to symbolise the Reds approach to this season.

He told Liverpool's official website: "It is a sentence I like and a view I take for life.

"But it fits with Liverpool and the current situation we are in - so that makes it even better.

"I started having the tattoo done at the beginning of the season and it was finished bit by bit. As players, we need to keep dreaming if we want to reach the objectives we have in mind.

"The players know how important these remaining games are, and we will fight and do our best on the pitch to make winning the league happen."

Coutinho credits his excellent technical ability with playing futsal as a youngster, but believes moving to Liverpool has only helped him express himself more.

He added: "Moving to Europe has added an extra dimension to my game. With Liverpool, I am moving faster still and thinking even more quickly. It just felt right for me here from the outset.

"The team have been playing with a great deal of freedom in attack and that has helped me adapt so easily."
