Teleworks | Tattoo Removal Programs Posted: 21 Apr 2014 10:45 PM PDT Tattoo removal programs are not created equal When it comes to management of your own body; the lion's share of responsibility is in your hands. When engaging a practitioner to undertake a cosmetic procedure on our bodies, we are protected to some extent by the mandatory extensive education and training of the surgeon and the ethical standards pervading the profession. It is, however, still incumbent upon the patient to choose a surgeon with whom he or she feels comfortable and ensuring that he or she can be confident in their skills. When the tattoo removal program is to be performed not by a medical professional but by a cosmetician, we must be aware that a different standard of training and ethics applies. There are certainly excellent cosmeticians, but finding one who you are sure has sufficient experience and training to deliver the desired outcome is key to your ultimate result. Surgical excision This form of tattoo removal program is less a 'program' than a one-stop solution. While the process is immediate, and generally doesn't require repeat surgeries, it is invasive and requires a long healing period. Surgical excision of a very large tattoo might necessitate harvesting of skin from elsewhere on the body to use as a graft. For some people and some tattoos, excision via scalpel is the most effective means of removing a tattoo; but it is not something to be undertaken lightly. All surgeries carry a risk of infection, even those of a seemingly minor cosmetic nature. Think carefully whether surgical intervention is really necessary, as laser therapies have gained in popularity to become a less invasive replacement for surgery in most instances. Laser therapies As tattoo removal programs go, laser therapies have much to recommend them. Much less harm is done to the bodily tissue surrounding the tattoo as high frequency light is tailored to the tattoo ink in question to break up the molecules without causing harm (or while minimising any unavoidable harm) to the surrounding skin. Lasering away a tattoo sounds like a quick fix, but actually success cannot be achieved in a single session for a permanent tattoo to be removed. Typically 8-10 sessions are needed, with long periods of time in between appointments needed to facilitate healing before the next round of treatment can begin. Abrasion Pretty much outmoded but still occasionally practised, abrasion involves the scraping of the skin to remove the ink-affected layers. Probably the single most painful of tattoo removal programs, abrasion has lost in popularity to laser technologies. Topical methods The fearful of us, and those who prefer a gentler option which may be less effective or take a bit longer (but doesn't involve tearing at the skin in any way), may elect to apply one of the many bleaching creams on the market in an effort to reduce the intensity of the tattoo ink and assisting its fading over time.
