E-tattoo can monitor health, store data and deliver drugs — Tech ...

Ultra-thin sticky patches packed with electronics, sometimes known as e-skin or e-tattoos, could someday track our health and deliver drugs at exactly the right moment.
Researchers at the University of Texas-Austin have taken a step closer to that future by combining many features of existing e-tattoos to create a version that can both monitor health and deliver drugs. The team says it is the first patch that can also store data, which can then be uploaded to a computer. The patch is just 0.003 millimeters thick — far thinner than a piece of human hair. It's capable of sensing movement and vital signs like temperature via tiny sensors. It also contains RAM for storage. The Austin team believes the patch could someday be of use to people with epilepsy or Parkinson's disease. It could also be used to monitor patients after they leave the hospital or deliver drugs over long periods of time. Unfortunately, the tattoo can't yet operate on its own, according to Nature. To support the memory feature, it still needs to be wired to a power supply and data transmitter. Researchers have already miniaturized both technologies, but no current solutions are flexible enough to be integrated into an e-skin patch. Wirelessly transmitting the data it collects would also be challenging. "It's a pretty complicated system to integrate onto a piece of tattoo material," study co-author Nanshu Lu said to Nature. "It's still pretty far away."

Ariana Grande Got A 'Bellissima' Tattoo Because ACCURATE

Isn't Ariana's "Bellissima" tattoo kind of redundant?
This weekend must have been HUGE for all you Arianators. Along with your girl Ariana Grande winning Favorite TV Actress at the 2014 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday and getting named one of MTV Style's best dressed at the event, you got to see Ariana's newest tattoo for the first time! Before you strain your eyes at this blurry Instagram photo trying to figure out if the "Baby I" singer got your name tatted on her side-torso, we'll just go ahead and spoil it for you. According to a tweet from Mar. 24, Ariana got the Italian word "Belissima" permanently inked, as a tribute to her grandfather's nickname for her: If you're a real Arianator, though, you know that this is Ariana's third tat total and her second in a foreign language. (Remember that neck tattoo? It says "Mille tendresses," or "A thousand tendernesses" in French.) A couple more of these ("J'aime les Pizza Bagels!" and "Dónde está los Pizza Bagels?" for example), and we'll be all set to hit up Europe together, Ari! Photo credit: Ariana Grande's Instagram |

Excessive CelebrationNCAA Basketball

This decision by @Tizzblack looked pretty hilarious when he got this tattoo: before the NCAA Tourney even began. But who's laughing now?Well, still me, because this is going to look even worse if Kentucky loses in the title game. But for now, the Final Four is set, and the Wildcats are invited. Their 75-72 win over Michigan was marked, at least for me, by the Wolverines' inability to block out. Offensive put-backs decided this one, IM Oh, and this:

This is the arm of 18-year old Norwegian fast food fan Stian Ytterdahl. He got a McDonald's receipt tattooed on it. Why? Because who doesn't love McFlurries? I still can't believe it. I mean, I love fast food as much as the next guy who's given up on eating right or working out, but a tattoo of a McDonald's receipt? It's genius! Some friends who wanted to punish Stian Ytterdahl for being too active with the ladies (uh huh, sure) gave him a choice between a Barbie on his ass or the receipt on his arm. Ytterdahl resigned himself to his fate (and probably wished he hadn't added those 4 extra toppings to his burger).Wait -- he agreed to get the tattoo as punishment from his friends for being too successful with the ladies? That makes zero sense. Besides, if anything it's going to make him MORE successful. I heard Norwegian girls love the Mickey D. Man, I remember when I got my first tattoo a friend asked me what I thought it would look like when I was 60. You know what I told him? It won't be worth digging up my grave to find out. THEN I POKED HIS F***ING EYES OUT. Thanks to Clarissa, who did not explain it all but did mention trying Taco Bell's new breakfast menu today. Jealous! |
